Chomp Worthy Chews!

Hello, and welcome back to the Live Life Off Leash blog!

Did you know that part of dental health for your dog is healthy chew toys? Healthy chewing helps keep teeth clean and is a great enrichment activity for your pooch. And for puppies it's necessary to help with the teething process. But how do you know if what your doggo is chewing on is safe? We'll help you decide below!

The first thing to acknowledge when looking for a chew toy that is appropriate for your dog is size. Dogs chewing on toys that are too small for them are a choking hazard. Chews that are too lard for a dog can cause jaw damage and even get stuck. So size is very important when choosing a toy for you pup.

The second thing to remember is that toys specifically made for dogs are generally better all the way around. They are designed with K9 safety in mind. So while there are some toys not appropriate for all dogs, purchasing a toy that is suited specifically for chewing dogs is going to be safer than say a stuffed animal designed for a human child.

Things like raw bones, sticks and other "natural" chews can be dangerous due to splintering, so always be careful and take this into consideration. Always watch and supervise your dog with any toy and feel free to contact us with questions regarding what safe options for you pet would be.
